Design Optimised Energy Modelling

Our Workflow
- Geometry. AutoCAD polylines into DXF, imported to DesignBuilder, 3D model built.
- Constructions. Walls, roofs, glazing defined with U value, SHGC, frame factor depth.
- Internal gains. Lighting, equipment and occupancy schedules consistent across model layers.
- HVAC. Detailed system modelling, COP characterisation, fan power tuning, fresh airflow per ASHRAE 62.1.
- Simulation. EnergyPlus simulation engine, baseline and proposed comparative analysis, unmet hours rectified.
- Daylight extension. Daylight simulation in DesignBuilder for sDA, ASE and Daylight Factor.
- Thermal comfort extension. PMV and PPD analysis with optional future weather file scenarios.
- Reporting. Audit ready documentation in the format USGBC, BRE, Estidama and Mostadam reviewers expect.

When the comments come back
Most outsource simulation partners hand the file over and stop. We do not. If USGBC comes back with preliminary review comments on the model we built, we rectify and resubmit. If USGBC comes back with comments on a model someone else built and you need help, we have a dedicated service for that.
FAQ
DesignBuilder or IES VE. Which is better?
DesignBuilder with EnergyPlus is generally more accurate for HVAC modelling, more flexible for non standard system types, and better for parametric optimisation. We can work in IES VE where the project requires it.
DesignBuilder or eQuest. Why DesignBuilder?
eQUEST runs on DOE-2, which is older and less accurate for modern HVAC systems. DesignBuilder with EnergyPlus is significantly more capable.
